Happy Birthday Dad!!!!!
Suppp everyone!!! What is poppin?!?!? Hope everyone is doing good!!! Happy Thanksgiving this week!! I hope you all have an awesome day on Thursday!! This week was hard but GOOD! So buckle up fr!!!
I stayed in Iowa city with Sister Mcmullin (in my mtc district), her comp Sister Smellie, and Sister Darrington (who's also training) for 2 days and we mobbed. It was so lit!!! I met some super dope people and had some awesome experiences! We went to a referral house and she let us in. She's from Sudan and speaks Arabic! She taught us some Arabic and showed us our last names in Arabic. She's getting married in a few weeks and invited us all to the wedding! big rip because I won't get to pull up! but that's okay!! Sis Smellie also does hair so I had her trim my hair and that was so nice!!! tender mercy for me for sure!!
I also just wanna say how grateful I am for Sister Otto and Sister Johnsen. The two BEST trainers in this mission hands down. I'm so grateful for them and all they taught me! I love them with all my heart.
Picked up my trainee on Thursday and she's the best!!! Her name is Sister Blackburn and she is from Nampa, Idaho! She played bball for 4 years in hs and golfed!! She is one of the sweetest people I have ever met and is so chill!!! I'm excited to be with her!! Everyone she's met so far says "perfect not another Utah one" because literally everyone is from Utah.
We had our branch Thanksgiving Dinner on Saturday and had a bunch of less actives come so that was super exciting!!! We've literally been inviting so many people to come so it was fun to see so many show up!!!
We also had a really cool lesson last night! We are teaching Arleth and her family and also her little bro. His name is Alex and he's 13!! One of the dopest little kids and he's super interested!! Arleth and her boyfriend were gone but Alex and his mom were home (his mom speaks 0 English but likes us so she listens to our lessons even though she doesn't understand anything). We taught them a couple days ago and Alex told us he wants to start coming to church and the activities!!!! We invited him to church and he said yes so we called a member right there on the spot and he said he'd pick him up at 9:40!! It was sick!!! Ee came to church!!!
Spiritual thought:
My spiritual thought is from a book I've been reading called "the sisters preachers" . It's about the first Sister missionaries that were called to serve in 1898.
It talks a lot about the things they went through on their mission! I love this one part so much and I want to share!!
One of the sisters says "it is difficult, and gray clouds of doubt may gather. But if our foremothers could stand up to ridicule and hate, if they could remain valiant as mobs burned their homes and killed their husband's, if they could leave everything and walk across a country for the restored gospel, then we can serve missions and preach that gospel to the world."
This touched me so much! I can't even imagine what the Saints went through!
I also had an experience last night which was kinda crazy. I felt prompted to go to this one lady's house who is NEVER home. We went anyway and knocked and she came to the door and told us her friend was really struggling. which we knew because we could hear her through the door completely sobbing. We asked if we could say a prayer with her and she said she needed to go ask. she came back with the friend and I hugged her as she sat and sobbed. I told her that god is aware of her and that made her cry harder. We prayed with her and she sat and cried as we did. and then when we ended the prayer she was calm. I have thought about this moment a lot. 1. because I am extremely grateful we were at the right place at the right time. 2. This lady felt the spirit and it calmed her down in one of the darkest times of her life.
This is a testament to me that the gospel of Jesus Christ is life changing. The saints left everything and did not care what happened because they knew without a doubt in their hearts that this is the true church and this gospel of Jesus Christ will save us! I love being a missionary as hard as it is! It is true there are so many ups, and so many downs but teaching people that they get to see their loved ones again or that they can repent and be forgiven is well rewarding!
I love you all so much!! Hug your family for me this Thanksgiving! And as always let me know if I can do anything for you!!
Also shoutout to my dad!!! It's his birthday on Thanksgiving!!!!! I love him and miss him SO much!!! Shoot him a text this week!! I am so grateful for him!!! I love you dad!
Love, Sister Liljenquist
