You Know What I'm Sayin?

"When faced with unfairness, we can push ourselves away from God or we can be drawn toward Him for help and support. For example, the prolonged warfare between the Nephites and the Lamanites affected people differently. Mormon observed that “many had become hardened” while others “were softened because of their afflictions, insomuch that they did humble themselves before God.”

 

"Do not let unfairness harden you or corrode your faith in God. Instead, ask God for help. Increase your appreciation for and reliance on the Savior. Rather than becoming bitter, let Him help you become better. Allow Him to help you persevere, to let your afflictions be “swallowed up in the joy of Christ.” Join Him in His mission “to heal the brokenhearted,” strive to mitigate unfairness, and become a stonecatcher." 

 

This week we helped Michael and Roxann pack up what little stuff they have as they are being evicted out of their crappy beat down apartment. 

 

A common question I have gotten on my mission is why would a loving God put me through this? Why is life so unfair? 

 

To be honest I'm still trying to figure that out. Why do I get to sleep so comfortably at night knowing Micheal sleeps on the floor? 

Why do I get to shower every single day when many people don't even have water? 

 

Roxann was hit by a car a couple years ago and has the brain capacity of a 3-5 year old. She served in prison for a couple years, and was abused by many of her boyfriends. As we were packing up her room she was screaming at Micheal. She was literally having a complete panic attack and tantrum. Because of all her trauma and everything she once had was taken from her, she thought we were stealing all of her stuff. This poor lady who doesn't know any better literally thinks she's being taken and doesn't understand that she will be safe and everything will be okay. 

 

She asked me to cut her hair this week! She requested an 80's style. So we chopped it and cut bangs! I didn't even know that that simple act would brighten her day but she was so happy and kept telling me how much she loved her hair! 

I would do this any day knowing it made her happy! 

 

Amidst all of Micheal and Roxanns chaos and all that they have been through, they have not complained once. They are grateful for what little they have. 

We asked Roxann if she prays and what she says cuz we're trying to teach her how to pray! She said "I thank him for letting me be alive" 

Not a single prayer Roxann has given has she not thanked heavenly father for keeping her alive. 

 

And yet I get to comfortably sleep at night. 

 

We are so blessed it's not even funny. I am soooooo grateful for everything that I have. A lot of it I wish I could give back because I don't need it. I am so grateful for these people and trusting me with their personal lives. 

I'm grateful that they let me help them learn how to let Jesus Christ heal their broken wounded hearts. 

 

 

Other little highlights this week: 

• We made bread at the relief society activity! 

• Tanja(the one who fought Drake) told us she made 62 million dollars in 2 years, killed 23 people by shooting a grenade, and owns a ferrari but it's at the police station rn. Oh and she has to take the bus because she keeps getting pulled over haha. 

• No one can say my name hahaha so Micheal the other day called me Sister Lily John and me and Sister Wait died 

• 2 of our recent converts are getting their patriarchal blessings and it is sooo sweet to see how excited they are!!!

• Our heater and water heater went out so we had to shower at a member's house Saturday night! 

• I also keep falling down stairs, literally eating absolute crap. Not just falling down a couple stairs, but the whole staircase. Multiple times. Our members have one of my falls on video and it's hilarious 

• Also the title is from queen Tanja! Her favorite sentence to say and I love it so much
