Okay, Sis Lil, now...
I just want the whole world to know, I am my district's biggest fan!!!! They are the best people I have ever met, and I have truly not laughed this hard in so long. It's so elite
This was easily the hardest but best week of my entire mission. The highest of highs but also the lowest of lows.
Sister Kinghorn's grandpa passed away Monday night, and I can honestly say that's one of the hardest things I've ever had to witness someone I love go through. Every missionary's biggest nightmare is someone they love passing away while they're on their mission. My heart has just been breaking for her. But it's also been some of the most sacred. Our work has been different, our conversations have been different. It has just felt different. It has literally been me, Sister Kinghorn, and God.
The other day we got a call from a sister who was struggling. We asked, "Is there anything else we can help you with?" She said, "Yeah, have any of you dealt with a death on the mission before? I think I'm going to have one in a couple of months."
This is what Sister Kinghorn said with tears streaming down her face:
"I'm so grateful to be on my mission; I feel so close to the veil, and I can just feel my grandpa all around me. I wake up every day, and I have a purpose. When I sit down and think that's when I'm sad. But when I'm working, that's when I feel true joy. I am so grateful I wake up with a purpose every day instead of being at home just sad; I'd so much rather be here and sad."
It has really put into perspective the knowledge that we have of the plan of salvation. As a missionary when you're sad, you get to go out and work. You get to turn outwards when the rest of the world would choose to turn inwards. I'm so grateful for Sister Kinghorn's strength to keep pushing and keep giving it everything she has.
It has been a week full of miracles! I know her grandpa is lifting her up, and God has been placing so many amazing people in our path! Please keep Sis Kinghorn and her family in your prayers
Anyways, this week we found 9 people to teach, so I will talk about a couple! Waukee has been struggling to find for years, and it's finally picking up, which is so fun to be a part of!!!
Raymond: We got to this apartment complex to stop by a guy but felt impressed to call a referral. We called and found Komola! As we're on this call, a guy walks out of the apartment building, I look at Sis K and go, "We need to OYM him." We try our best to wrap up our phone call, but this guy doesn't speak much English haha. By the time we hang up, our guy is around the other side of the building. We really said I'm a runner, I'm a track star. After yelling "HEY!!!" a few times, our boy Raymond stops to talk to us. He told us he went to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ghana but was never taught by the missionaries! We set up a return appointment a few days later and taught him the restoration and had a church tour. He's so full of questions, and he told us he wants the truth! He's awesome. When we asked how his Book of Mormon reading was going, he said, "I just don't want to stop reading." He said he wants to know everything right now. Can't wait to share more later.
Went on so many fun exchanges lately with my queens!!!
Me and Sis Slagle Dawg knocked on a door where we met Jamie, Ben, Kate, May, Beau, and Jill who immediately lit right up and let us inside. They started freaking out and telling us how they just went to Salt Lake City this summer to learn more about our church. They asked if either one of us happened to be from Salt Lake City, and when I told them I was, they were so hyped. They were so fascinated at what we do as missionaries. You would have thought we were famous with the way the little girls reacted when they saw us. We asked if we could come back, and the little girls were jumping up and down; they were so excited. We gave them a Book of Mormon, and they treated it like their prized possession. It was a moment I'll never forget.
Good things are happening in Waukee!! Hearts are being softened. People are prepared.
We also had MLC this week, and President and Sister Barney asked Sister Kinghorn and me to give a training. We were both freaking out because we were so nervous, but when we gave it, we felt so calm. So peaceful.
It was my last MLC, and it made me sad. I'm so grateful and feel so privileged to have been a part of it. It's changed me forever.
We also got to go to the giving machine. It was such a unique opportunity, one I'll never forget. It was the very first time Iowa has ever had a giving machine. We were walking billboards and just wore "Light the World" shirts and walked around the mall inviting people to go to the giving machine! We were able to talk to someone through Google Translate, which was sick.
Also, picture this... 2 zone leaders, 2 sister training leaders pulling up to MLC in suspenders. Such a power move
I'm sorry; I'm running out of time.
My heart is so full. I feel like I could explode
